Hello, friend. Welcome to Authorized Sword Ministries.

We're so glad you're here.

Where This Course Begins

This course is for every believer, men and women alike. The Bible says the Christian life is a fight, and God doesn't send His people into it unarmed. Over four lessons we'll look at standing firm, courage under fire, knowing your weapon, and leading by example.

Today is Lesson One. It's called "Called to Stand."

Our Key Verse

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."
— Ephesians 6:13 (KJV)

Our Strength Comes From the Lord

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might."
— Ephesians 6:10 (KJV)
"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
— Ephesians 6:11 (KJV)

Notice where the strength comes from. Not "be strong in yourself," but "in the Lord, and in the power of his might."

Know Your Real Enemy

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
— Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

Our fight is not against people. As an application, that changes how we treat those who oppose us. The enemy is spiritual, so our weapons are spiritual too (2 Corinthians 10:4).

The Whole Armour of God

"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;"
— Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)
"And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;"
— Ephesians 6:15 (KJV)
"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."
— Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)
"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"
— Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)
"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"
— Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)

Truth. Righteousness. The gospel of peace. Faith. Salvation. The Word of God. And prayer. God gives every piece. Our part is to "put on" and "take."

Stand Fast

"Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."
— 1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV)

"Quit you like men" means act with courage and maturity. Paul wrote this whole letter to the church, "brethren" and sisters together (1 Corinthians 1:2). As an application, the call to stand fast and be strong is for every believer.

A Good Soldier Stays Focused

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."
— 2 Timothy 2:3 (KJV)
"No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."
— 2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV)

A soldier on duty doesn't get tangled up in everything around him. As an application, a Christian keeps the main thing the main thing: pleasing the One who called us.

Closing Thought

You are called to stand, in the Lord's strength and in His armour. Next time, in Lesson Two, we'll meet men and women who showed courage under fire.

Let Us Pray

Father, make us strong in You. Help us put on the whole armour of God every day and stand. In Jesus' name, amen.
