Hello, friend. Welcome back to Authorized Sword Ministries.

We're so glad you're here again.

Where We've Been

In Lesson One, we asked the most important question anyone can ask. Who is Jesus?

We saw that He is the eternal Son of God, the Creator of all things, and the promised Messiah, born of a virgin. "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."

Today is Lesson Two. It's called "He Went About Doing Good." We're going to look at how Jesus lived and what He did while He walked this earth. Because the way He lived shows us who He is.

Our Key Verse

Here is our key verse. The apostle Peter summed up the life of Jesus in one sentence:

"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." — Acts 10:38 (KJV)

Jesus "went about doing good." What a way to describe a life! Let's walk through it.

The Father's Voice

Jesus began His public ministry when He was about thirty years old. And it began at the river Jordan, where John the Baptist baptized Him.

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." — Matthew 3:16-17 (KJV)

Do you see it? The Father speaks from heaven. The Spirit comes down like a dove. And the Son stands in the water. God Himself told the world who Jesus is. "This is my beloved Son."

He Taught with Authority

Then Jesus began to teach. And people had never heard anything like it.

"And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes." — Matthew 7:28-29 (KJV)

The religious teachers of that day mostly repeated what other men had said. But Jesus didn't need to quote anyone. He said, "I say unto you." Because He is the Word of God, His word is the final word.

He Did Mighty Works

Jesus also did miracles. He healed the sick. He opened blind eyes. He raised the dead. One night His disciples were in a boat in a terrible storm, and Jesus stood up and told the wind and the waves to be still. And they were.

"And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" — Mark 4:41 (KJV)

That's the right question, friend. What manner of man is this? Only the One who made the wind and the sea can tell them what to do.

John tells us why these miracles were written down:

"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." — John 20:30-31 (KJV)

The miracles weren't just to amaze people. They were signs, pointing to who Jesus is, so that we would believe and have life.

He Was Moved with Compassion

Jesus didn't just have power. He had a heart for people.

"And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd." — Matthew 9:35-36 (KJV)

He saw the crowds, tired and lost, and it moved Him. Friend, Jesus sees you the same way.

A Friend of Sinners

The proud religious leaders complained about the company Jesus kept:

"And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them." — Luke 15:2 (KJV)

They meant it as an insult. But it's some of the best news in the Bible. Jesus receives sinners. He doesn't excuse sin, but He welcomes sinners who come to Him. And He told us why He came:

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." — Luke 19:10 (KJV)

He Came to Serve

Jesus is the King of kings. And yet He lived as a servant.

"For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." — Mark 10:45 (KJV)

Notice how that verse ends. "To give his life a ransom for many." Everything Jesus did was leading somewhere. He was headed to the cross.

Whom Say Ye That I Am?

One day Jesus asked His disciples a question:

"He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." — Matthew 16:15-16 (KJV)

Friend, Jesus asks you that same question. Not what your family says, or what the world says. Whom say ye that I am?

The life He lived shows who He is. And He still says to you today:

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

If you've never come to Him, you can come today. Turn from your sin and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone.

Next Time

In Lesson Three, we'll go with Jesus to the cross. We'll see why John the Baptist pointed to Him and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

A Prayer

Before we go, let's pray together.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this friend who is listening right now.

Thank You for sending Jesus, who went about doing good.

Thank You that He has compassion on the lost, and that He receives sinners who come to Him.

Help each of us to answer His question rightly, and to say from our hearts, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Thank you for spending this time with us.

We'll see you in Lesson Three.

From all of us at Authorized Sword Ministries, God bless you.
