Hello, friend. Welcome to Authorized Sword Ministries.

We're so glad you're here.

Today we're asking a big question. Can a person really know that there is no God?

Many people today say they don't believe in God. But what does the Bible say about that? Let's open the Bible and see what God says.

Our Key Verses

Here are our key verses. Romans 1:18-21.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened." — Romans 1:18-21 (KJV)

Look closely at what Paul says. Men "hold the truth in unrighteousness." That means they hold it down. They push it away.

You can't push away something you don't have. The Bible says God "hath shewed it unto them." And Paul says, "when they knew God." So the problem isn't that people don't know. The problem is that they don't want to know.

That's why Paul says they are "without excuse."

God Has Shown Himself in Creation

So how has God shown Himself? First, through the things He made.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork." — Psalm 19:1 (KJV)

Step outside on a clear night and look up. Look at a newborn baby. A painting tells you there was a painter. A building tells you there was a builder. And creation tells you there is a Creator.

Paul told a crowd in the city of Lystra:

"Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness." — Acts 14:17 (KJV)

Every rain shower and every good meal is a witness. God has not left Himself without witness.

God Has Shown Himself in the Heart

Second, God has written something on the inside of every person. We call it the conscience.

"For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;" — Romans 2:14-15 (KJV)

Have you ever noticed that every person knows some things are just wrong? Nobody has to be taught that it's wrong when someone lies to them or steals from them. That sense of right and wrong is "written in their hearts." It points to the One who wrote it there.

What the Bible Calls It

So what does God say about the man who says there is no God?

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." — Psalm 14:1 (KJV)

Notice where he says it. "In his heart." It isn't a problem of the head. It's a problem of the heart. Romans 1:22 says the same thing. "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools."

Now, friend, we don't say this to look down on anybody. Every one of us was once in that same darkness. The Bible says, "there is none that doeth good." That includes all of us. We share this so that people can see the truth and come to the light.

Why the Name of Jesus Stirs Up Anger

Here's something worth thinking about.

If you mention Jack and the Beanstalk, nobody gets upset. If you mention Poseidon, the old Greek god of the sea, nobody gets angry. Nobody has a speech ready.

But mention the name of Jesus Christ, and things change. All of a sudden, people get upset. Some have a whole speech ready to go.

Why is that? A fairy tale makes no claim on your life. A dead myth doesn't ask anything of you. But Jesus does. He calls every person to turn from sin and follow Him.

And Jesus told us this would happen:

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." — John 15:18-19 (KJV)

He also told us why:

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." — John 3:19-20 (KJV)

People don't get angry at a story they believe is make-believe. The anger itself shows that the name of Jesus touches something deep in the heart. It is just as He said.

And the Bible tells us why His name is different from every other:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." — Acts 4:12 (KJV)

Every Knee Shall Bow

One day, there will be no more arguing about God. Every person will know the truth.

"That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." — Philippians 2:10-11 (KJV)

Every knee will bow one day. The question is whether you will bow to Him now, in faith, as your Saviour.

Will You Come to the Light?

Friend, maybe you've had doubts. Maybe you've pushed God away for a long time. Here is the good news. God is not far from you, and He still loves you.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." — John 3:16 (KJV)

Hebrews 11:6 says that whoever comes to God "must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Seek Him today.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." — Romans 10:9 (KJV)

A Prayer

Before we go, let's pray together.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this friend who is listening right now.

Thank You that You have not left Yourself without witness. Thank You for the heavens above us and the conscience within us that point us to You.

Lord, open the eyes of everyone who has pushed You away. Help them to come out of the darkness and into the light of Jesus Christ.

Help each of us to believe in our hearts that You raised Him from the dead, and to confess Him as Lord.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Thank you for spending this time with us.

From all of us at Authorized Sword Ministries, God bless you.
